„ … we should not be naive and we should know how to differentiate amidst the lot of apparent and assumed destitute cases; we should know how to recognize the real destitution and help the most befallen.

… It is better to be in error and give to ten people who do not need it than to deny the help to one authentic pauper. The nipper will always find a circumbendibus if only he wouldn´t have to provide anything. And, we should not be angry when the love to the befallen demands of us humility and brings humiliation for us. How often is our help just like a drop in the ocean! How often we can help only by far less than the kneeler needs. For some of them, we were most probably their last hope.

… Our limited possibilities and our helplessness will disenchant him even if we explain to him everything with adequate form. We will heart bitter words from him addressed to us. Without adequate gratitude for what we were able to do for him. In such situations the man needs a great lot of comprehension and even after that he has to exert oneself to love the destitutes – in their embitteredness which makes them even more abject and hapless.”
